Ray,

I see that a bad penny has turned up! (If that sounds offensive, it's not in England -- merely whimsical.) As for me, I am no longer "singing in a great Chorus". I don't have enough puff these days. However, I'm still able to get into my den every morning and tap out words on this keyboard -- and still trying to find the answer to things.

Well, it's been a few years since you last wrote on FW. Have your ideas changed much in the interim? Mine have -- at least I think they have -- both leftwards and rightwards in conventional terms. More of a mosaic really. But then, I think few of the conventional ideas of the last -- what? -- hundred years will serve much useful purpose any longer. We're living in 'interesting' times.

The key ideas that we need are more likely to come from fresh young minds, and the more provocative they are the more likely they are to contain some promise. The trouble is that I haven't come across any ideas that can be called remotely provocative. I get the impression, however, that with their mobile phones and all, the younger generation are keeping themselves at arm's distance from the oldies. They know that our generation and the one before it have created one train wreck after another and if they have new ideas then they are keeping quiet about them.
