Many thanks to Gail for her perceptive, constructive and courageous proposal. I hope it will be heard and implemented. This also applies to other topics I tried to discuss but was refused a discussion, such as the Bit Tax or Basic Income funding. --- What a sharp contrast to this other reaction: Tom Walker wrote: > What I > objected to was not an outburst but an insidious theme, one of the tentacles > of which is "Jew = Zionist = predator," another of which is "anyone who > disagrees with or criticizes my views = predator." I have never suggested these 2 equations -- that's just a libelous strawman from Tom Walker who is chronically unable to argue against my position. If anything should be banned from the list, it is such defamation and attempts to silence/ban opinions just for lack of counter-arguments. While Marxists may long for the Siberian "solution" of crushing dissent, this is inacceptable in a pluralistic, free speech discussion environment. Also, I would suggest that since this is a serious academic list and not a chatline of kids, all posters have to post with their real name and not with a pen name. This would help to discourage behavior that is strictly a criminal offense, and public confession of illegal substance abuse. (But at least this explains the behavior...) > But slander and defamation I won't tolerate or accommodate. Funny, you said nothing when a user called another user a pig, and now you're dishing out slander and defamation yourself. > These are not just > unfortunate incidents, they are the perpetrator's motivation. Uh-hum, sounds like that. --- I appeal to all (incl. Keith) to resume on-topic discussions and end this unproductive thread or even boycott measures. It seems to be a cultural misunderstanding indeed that what is frankness in my culture is considered "uncivilized" in Keith's culture. The opposite side of the coin is the actual behavior of our 2 cultures, domestically and around the world... ;-) It is open to discussion what is preferable: A peaceful culture that calls a spade a spade, or a "polite" royal empire with the big stick. The list and world language is English, not due to politeness...
