I haven't taken part, publicly or privately, in discussion of who
should or should not be blocked from FW.

But my take has always been that mailing lists are not democratic
fora. There is always a "list owner" and his/her authority is
absolute. If that authority is exercised attentively and
thoughtfully, that is the best that anyone can hope for.

This is very different from (unmoderated) Usenet newsgroups. Such
groups can and, over the years often do, deteriorate into cesspools of
belligerence or worse, either as a result of intentional attack or
because, as more vituperative, irrational, bellicose or doctrinaire
posters are attracted to the group, more thoughtful and balanced
people drift away. When such a development threatens a mailing list,
it becomes the onerous responsibility of the list owner to deal with
it.

I'm sorry that Arthur was obliged to make a difficult decision, one
with which not all subscribers will agree, but that's how it works.

Thanks, Arthur.

FWIW,
- Mike
