Thanks for posting, Mike. I usually poke through the NYTimes, but I haven't as
yet today. I've always felt uncomfortable about the Euro -- the idea of
several countries with little in common adopting a common currency and thereby
losing a tremendous amount of flexibility in dealing with their respective
problems. What the EU and the Euro did in the case of Ireland was create a
huge illusion. I spent some time in Ireland in the late 1970's. The place was
a dark medieval pit. I next spent some time in Ireland in the early part of
the past decade when Ireland was part of the EU and had adopted the Euro. The
place appeared to have become the shining city on the hill. But had it really?
Well no, it just thought it had, even if it was great while it lasted.
