This article below is in line with what I told this list two years ago when
I wrote of an American baritone who came to New York to sing a few
performances at the Metropolitan Opera from a regular job in a German Opera
House. I asked him the difference between America and Europe and he said
simply "Heaven and Hell". You can guess where he thought heaven was since
he returned to live in Europe, (Germany), with his American family.

I only have one question in all of this mucky muck. Whose responsibility
has it been to make America better rather than just grazing in the pasture
left from the past generations? What is the legacy this group will leave?*
Who are the groups that have risen to the top of the heap this generation
but have taken away from rather than adding to the good of the society at
large? Who feels no responsibility to America or Americans but "off
shores" its funds to avoid taxes and closes its plants to outsource and
destroy American cities and families?

What is the difference between the economic religion of Europe or Asia and
the economic religion of America? Is it the Karma of America that we will
become what Africa and Central America has been to us? That it is our
guilt that Europe, the father land of most Americans, and Asia the battered,
will now feed on America's children? That like Esau in the Hebrew Bible,
we gave up our birthright for a cup of soup?

I just bought a new bible. It's called "Economics, A streamlined course
for Students and Business People" Barron's pub by a prophet from North
Carolina State University named Walter J. Wessels.

What Mike, myself and some others on this list complain about all makes
sense, in this bible. We're just the wrong religion under this economic
version of a kind of total "sharia" (but not Islamic) law. The Secular
Common and Covenant is a dead goose, cooked and eaten by the current folks
who are even patenting corn seed that only lives for one season and then
must be purchased again from our owners.

"Scarcity is the root of all markets." From the Economic Bible by the
North Carolina Prophet Walter Wessels

*Who's going to pay to replace the beautiful Catskill Mountains with the
beauty and the history of America in every hollow? When fracking is done
and the water and pristine beauty of the place is destroyed, who will come
to vacation in the only cash flow the mountain population has? Would the
Swiss or Northern Italians frack their Alps? Who will replace the fresh
water, the water that goes to NYCity that is considered the finest municipal
water system in America? Energy producers use Oklahoma and Texas as
examples of how fracking doesn't destroy things. But has anyone tasted the
water in Oklahoma lately that remembers what it once was? The Elderly can
live just fine today in the Catskills with its low pollution, its clean
water and temperate summer weather. Try vacationing in the summer in
Oklahoma or Texas. How are the tar sands working out for the environment
and living conditions of Canadaians? REH

The U.S.: Where Europe comes to slum

The newest slumlord in Los Angeles is a pillar of German capitalism. Earlier
this month, the city attorney's office filed suit against Deutsche Bank, the
world's fourth-largest bank, for letting many of the more than 2,000 L.A.
homes it has foreclosed on descend into squalor and decay ... slumming in
America is fast becoming a business model for some of Europe's leading
companies, and they often do things here they would never think of doing at
home. These companies - not banks, primarily, but such gold-plated European
manufacturers as BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen and Siemens, and retailers such as
IKEA - increasingly come to America (the South particularly) because labor
is cheap and workers have no rights. In their eyes, we're becoming the new
China. Our labor costs may be a little higher, but we offer stronger
intellectual property protections and far fewer strikes than our unruly
Chinese comrades.
