I believe the riot here is much more of the Oliver Cromwell variety than the
neo-classical economic version.

Remember that the world bank essentially destroyed the fragile structure of
Yugoslavian tolerance when Tito died. Michel Chussudovsky wrote very
passionately about what happened at that time on this list. There have
been many world events that have been discussed and even foretold on this
list. Another subject discussed on this list and now manifested is the
takeover of Lean and Agile systems that is now a part of Republican
orthodoxy. We told what would happen and it has and is.

That speaks very well for both Sally and Arthur's patience and guidance.

Here are a few thoughts that I have on "riots" and how they relate to
currents in today's society here in the U.S.

A "Christian Nation"

In 1644 the Globe Theatre was burned by the Puritans. In 1647 Even stricter
rules were passed regarding stage plays and theatres. This culminated in
1648 when all playhouses were ordered to be destroyed. All players were to
be seized and whipped, and anyone caught attending a play to be fined five
shillings. In 1649 the Civil War finally lead to the execution of King
Charles I . In 1653 Oliver Cromwell became the "Lord Protector" of
England. In 1658 Cromwell died and the power of the Puritans starts to
decline. In 1660 King Charles II is restored to the throne of England.
With the Restoration of the English monarchy and , and the demise in the
power of the Puritans in 1660 the theatres finally open again. But
Shakespeare's Globe was never re-built until today. What has England
truly given the world that is greater than William Shakespeare? What
would be the reputation and power of England without William Shakespeare and
the English theater of words?

At the roots in Western Philosophy and Society:

Actors and especially the ones who played the leading parts ("protagonists")
were persons of high respect, not only to the Athenian society but
worldwide. Some of them have been addressed as ambassadors. In the 5th
century they had become significant members of the Greek society and they
were well paid and even wealthy.

What would England be without Shakespeare? What, if the Puritans had
succeeded in erasing all Arts, would have been the modern English nation
today? Who is America's modern version of Oliver Cromwell?

These are the World libraries that "Apocalyptic" (Rapture) type Christians
have destroyed for "apostasy."

. The Library at Alexandria, Egypt the storehouse of all Western
Culture.

. The Libraries of Chitchen Itza and Tenochtitlan the storehouse of
all pre-Columbian American cultures.

Their belief in the power of rewriting history has been held by every tyrant
that has dreamed of world domination.

The Christians I grew up with were not the "Rapture" type folks. If they
have changed today, that is a recent development. My Christian relatives
believed in the power of knowledge, diversity, accomplishment and
significance in the world.

They also didn't believe that you were worth anything unless you
accomplished significant actions during your life for the betterment of
humanity and the world. Everyone has significance to the Creator who
gives us all life but that is different from being "worth anything" in life
itself.

Resting on your laurels because of your religion was just considered lazy.

You REPRESENT the power of your religion (and your teachers) , to the world,
by the significance of your life. If your significance is destructive,
like Oliver Cromwell or the Puritans here who created genocide and
countenanced slavery, then the reputation of your faith suffers in the
world.

There is another type of Christian. That is the Christian that values all
knowledge, treasures diversity, fights for justice and equality and yet has
a peaceful soul that is tolerant and takes the image for that tolerance from
their Savior. That type of Christian literally believes that "In their
Father's house there are many mansions" and that their religion prepares one
of those mansions for their families after this life. I too believe that.

I have nothing in common with the Apocalyptic types who seem stuck in the
models of human sexuality and orgasm. What in the opera world is called a
"love death" or Liebestod. I don't believe sexuality is the primal model
for all humanity. The ones who believe that are classical psycho-analysts
and the Apocalyptic section of Christianity. That includes both
conservatives and liberals who operate from that view of life.

I don't believe that a potential is a realization.

A potential is just a potential. That goes for human cells in a petri
dish as well as a genius pianist who refuses to practice.

Life is so much more than mere potential.

The one riot that needs to be watched -- and taken very seriously -- is that
which is going on in Athens right now. Greece is now very close to a default
which could ripple disastrously through to several large French and German
banks (which have bought Greek eurobonds) and thence to American banks which
have largely sold insurance to them (credit default swaps). This week-end
might see the beginning of the same sort of panic that occurred at the
tail-end of 2007 and, if anything, could be far worse.
