It's worth taking a closer look at this below under this subject line...
this is an event on Digital Inclusion in Aus... where they are demonstrating
some very significant leadership in broadband infrastructure development.

What is interesting about this is that the event appears to be sponsored by
Huawei the Chinese infrastructure supplier. Sponsoring this event is an
interesting social intervention (one that they probably aren't making at
home) but quite progressive in the Aus context.

Nothing similar is happening or at this point even conceivable in Canada
(let along the US) given the Harper government and the fact that our IT
hardware suppliers are dominated by US companies for whom such an
intervention would be both ideologically and corporately anathema.

First we take Manhattan, then Sydney, then...

Summit registration http://www.huawei.com.au/email/
Webcast registration http://tiny.cc/rntfr
Agenda http://huawei.com.au/assets/downloads/PDF/agenda.pdf

The Summit aims to inform key decision and policy makers as the National
Broadband Network rolls out. Hosted and facilitated by Dr Tim Williams,
author of Connecting Communities - the impact of broadband on communities in
the UK and its implications for Australia. The output will be key
recommendations to further pursue the goal of not just building a network,
but a 'networked society' for Australia's prosperity.

I am speaking on the topic of Social Entrepreneurship - corporate and
community engagement. I will be drawing from my research in the area of
ICTD-SE, corporate social responsibility and experiences within the AIIA.

Digital Inclusion: let's be sure no one gets left behind
