They fired Schneiderman for pressing the case in New York. Obama has betrayed his African American heritage. He had a responsibility to be the best or not to try because of the danger to all African Americans from the viral racism beneath the surface of American culture.
Because he was arrogant there is a huge breach in the dike that guards the public against predatory lending. It hit us long before Obama. That credit Tsunami struck in the American Masters Arts Festival when the banks raised the rates for actions that had never raised the rates before. (See Elizabeth Warren for the whole story.) The loans to run the festival had been the type that we had in the past and had always paid off. Our credit was excellent. By the time the banks were through we had done everything but declare bankruptcy which if we were business people we would have done. But being artists we were too proud to be good at business and walk away. Buts it's older even than George W. Bush. From my childhood my experience with American business has always been that business is amoral and committed only to the short term bottom line. Else, why would they poison their children with lead, cadmium, arsenic, radium and all of the other heavy metals freely available in what business called a negative externality? That negative externality only began for me in the business of Picher. It has been true time after time throughout my lifetime as I have had to make a life in the Arts. If you think I'm just whining then you will consider the plaints of the birds and the children of the Canadian Tar Sands collateral damage as well. When they are through they will never recognize that part of Canada again. Lost for a short term goal so that they can suck on the dug of an internal combustion engine for a little longer. To allow that you must assume that the domain known as business or commerce is amoral. If it truly IS "Just Business" then you have to decide whether we are dealing with a toilet training pathology that is very old in the individual committing the act. Are they People who would defecate in their own home and then smear the walls because of the delightful smell? Are they like a non-toilet trained child who just discovered that warm brown smelly stuff leaving their opposite end? The Cherokee word for that is uckstaha and means literally "brown, smelly, warm, flexible stuff that comes from the opposite end." To escape that, a healthy society must have other domains that either police the economists or that stir the morality within the breasts of the individuals involved in business. (Remember European business murdered, in the name of Empire, hundreds of millions of people over the last 500 years for their own middle classes back home.) There are, however, rules about how the society back home is supposed to be protected from the toxicity of Empire and the resultant business practices. I was taught those rules by the dominant society in Quapaw Nation Reservation School U.S. Government certified Civics classes and in Political Science 101 at the University of Tulsa, a private Presbyterian School by one Professor Conklin. Here is what they taught and was certified by both society and the government for teaching to the young. A. Religion should be one domain that exercises moral courage and demands morality from the individuals in the capital sector. B. Government should demand, through laws, that the private capital sector [and economics] not serve as a cancer on the body of the society but be the fiscal engine that sustains a homeostasis within the society. C. Science should be the domain that tells the truth about the evolution of knowledge in the society including business and D. Education should be the domain that trains people to be wise at business, morality, family life and the general welfare of the society as well as to train the formal physical instrument of the human being. E. Aesthetics and the Arts should be the domain that controls creativity and imagination and is responsible for pattern discrimination in all of the physical senses, which is the window to all of reality for all individuals. F. Public Health should be the domain that indicates the overall success of all of the above as it judges the psycho-physical health of the society. The psycho-physical health of every individual in the society is an indication of how the whole system is working and whether it is ill. In the lead and zinc mines that job was given to a beautiful yellow singing bird [canary]. In the vineyards of Tuscany it is still given to a beautiful rose bush at the end of every row. Both tells what is happening in the environment and serves as a warning, (the root of the word sub rosa.) Any one of these seven domains that become dominant rather than dynamic, and that asserts control over the whole, creates an imbalance in the greater system. Any one of those domains have the capacity to become malignant on the body of the society. But when healthy all of the domains serve as balancing points with centers of responsibility that makes the greater system perform. Where are we in that system in all of this current bull huckapuck? We are dealing with wealthy criminals and in the case of the wars, war criminals. The society is insane. Imbalance = insanity. My teachers were idealists. They weren't wrong, they were just naïve.
