There's an interesting dialogue between CNN and Forbes on the premise. The problem, for me, of a basic income in a capitalist economy is that the basic income can very quickly become zero relative to the cost of living. I believe a designed economy with a "wild" private sector to provide competition and keep the economy trim is a better solution. Pay people for work that you need, to make the society a good one. Engage people in the development of the environment that they want to live in and train them to become more sophisticated in their choices. Sounds like China or maybe not.
