And maple leafs turn red in the fall. Don't over analyze.

I've often wondered about the flag. Red means danger. Are Canadians
dangerous? Red means stop. Stop what? Red is the colour of blood. Is Canada
bleeding? Is Canada for blood letting? Is Canada for killing? Do Canadians
bleed for each other? the country's leaders? the world? The red road on and
surrounding the white of peace? Maple trees (although not sugar) are all
across Canada so that is representative. White could be for snow - the Great
White North?...OK.

But hearkening back to my blurb on 2012 and Mike's reply from the Globe and
Mail :

While the United States flourished, colonial Canada became a
paranoid, insular place, with a sparse population and an economy
limited to resources -- a condition that would poison its growth
for almost a century and leave an even longer legacy of choked-off
    development. ...

Canada was the Great White North at the time. It was not the warm paradise
it is now becoming. And, yes, Britain wanted to rape all the Beaver, Otter,
fish, and Bison (oh, the U.S. got most of those on their southern
migrations) it could get. Next the mineral wealth which is still being taken
by more foreign interests than Canadian.

But the paranoia alluded to in that piece came directly from join the crowd
or die. You are Canadian and loyal to the Crown or you are a spy. "You are
with us or you are against us." Did George make anyone else shiver? Only now
it is the U.S. corporations that are going to be waging war in the
international tribunals - trade wars. But, I still say Canada has all it
needs right here if it is not sold out from under us by these sleazy
politicians or taken by the right wing actions of the neo-capitalist war
machines of Corporate America.

Happy Canada Day!
