Michigan is now the 24th American state to pass "right-to-work" legislation.
The Liberals and NDP say Canada could be next. The legislation essentially
makes it possible for an employee to work in a unionized workplace without
joining the union, without paying union dues, and free to work even if the
union goes on strike. Opponents see it as union busting. Here in Canada, the
opposition parties say the Conservatives are already moving in the same
direction as "right-to- work" states. Nepean Carleton Conservative MP Pierre
Poilievre is calling for support of his private members bill allowing union
members to opt out of paying union dues.
