If only it were so. :-)

In a city of ca. 250,000, there were 5 high schools: Classical,
Technical, Commerce, Trade and the Roman Catholic Cathedral.  Mine was
Classical, from which it was expected that the largest number of VIPs
would emerge: scholars, executives, scientists and, yes,
people-running-the-country .

I didn't attend my 50th (!) reunion but I submitted a bio so I
received the CD with all the bios of people who'd bothered to submit
them.

Alas, none of my classmates have been running the country. Several
became tenured professors, many have had successful careers in art,
theatre, business, law, technology, the military and the
church. Several have had lives to varying degrees eccentric, eclectic
or both. Not one reported having become a senator, a governor or even
a respectable wardheeler.

But on reflection, what is scary is that people running the country
are those who were, statistically, inferior to we'uns from the best
school in town.
