Speaking eloquently about the antics of the "the strange distracted gnomes of
Redmond," Pete Vincent wrote,

Upon reading Pete's observations, a computer engineer friend of mine observed:
"If Microsoft were a telephone manufacturer and their product could be made to
burn down your house if the right kind of devious call were made to it, then I
think a product recall would be in order. It is amazing what individuals and
businesses will put up with from their computers."
Sounds right to me.
