WHERE IN THE WORLD? E-WORK LOCATION IN A DIGITAL GLOBAL ECONOMY

I am writing to bring to your attention a conference which will be
taking place on October 24-25, 2000 in Budapest.

Most of us are now familiar with the idea that the new information and
communications technologies can be used to relocated employment around
the globe, but so far little is known about the extent to which this
is happening, where the jobs are going, and why these locations are
chosen. This will be the first international conference to address
this important issue.

The conference will bring together leading experts and senior policy-
makers from international bodies and the corporate and voluntary
sectors to discuss the implications of these developments and consider
regional case studies from America, Asia, Australia, Africa, the EU
and Eastern Europe. It will also launch the results of the 22-country
survey of e-work location currently being carried out by the EMERGENCE
project, funded under the European Commission's Information Society
Technologies Programme.

You will find information about the EMERGENCE Project at
www.emergence.nu and a booking form on the EMERGENCE website at
www.emergence.nu/forms/conference.htm Please book soon to ensure a
place.

For those of you who were sent an invitation earlier this summer,
there is good news: thanks to the success of our fundraising efforts,
we have been able to reduce the attendance fee from 500 euros to 200
euros per person. This fee includes lunch on October 24th and 25th
and a gala dinner on the evening of October 25th.

We are anxious to ensure that there is representation from as wide a
range of stakeholders as possible. We will therefore consider waiving
the fee altogether in cases of hardship, although unfortunately this
will only be possible in exceptional cases.

Please contact me if you require further information and I will send
you more information about the Project in general and the Conference
in particular.
