fyi, to FWers. This is somewhat off topic but may be of
interest to some. So, please, any feedback should be direct to me and not
via the FW list.
thanx

==========================================
I recently participated in an interesting roundtable
discussion on the future of the university. Called "The Future of the
Academy", the roundtable looked at the past real and imagined roles of the
university and extrapolated forward to a global net-linked world where
knowledge production is commodified and where production of skilled workers
is a main role of learning institutions.
The conversation was broad ranging and was carried out with
few constraints. The intent was to define the boundaries of the problem and
to suggest some policy solutions.
The roundtable took place in the small medieval town of Pari
in Italy.
The web site report on the conference can serve as a useful
trip report
