I think there are at least 3 levels in this hierarchy:

(1) The local and thinly stocked store.

(2) The high-volume and large selection stores.

(3) The very high end specialty shops and direct
purveyors of extremely specialized items.

Each layer cannot afford to handle the merchandise of the
next higher layer.

Obviously, however, #2 has the potential to crush
both #1 and #3, although for somewhat different
reasons.

Perhaps the best we can
hope for is for the CxOs and major shareholders
of the #2 places to adopt #3 instances as "avocations".

*If* the CEO of Swatch loves fine watches, and is
determined to have a piece of horological excellence on his wrist and
to be able to say to his peers that he makes them, then
Breguet may have a rosy(obscure pun intended!) future!

I sincerely -- no, more like: desperately! -- hope!
