Really?

What about such phenomena as "economies of scale"?  Everybody
starts out relatively equal, but one gains a little edge which
enables him to sell a little cheaper 
and get a little bigger and soon enough
he either buys out or drives out most of the competitors and
is able to buy production machines increase the level
of capitalization required for new competitors to enter the field,
etc.

Then there's the metaphor of the astronomical universe,
where matter tends to "clump".

Not to mention the "communication dynamics" that several
competitors will join together to form a monopoly unless
others join together to prevent monopolies from
forming.... 

Capitalism might indeed be a pretty acceptable *sub-system*, given
a good over-arching "culture" of social oversight.
