Especially in the present Age of AIDS.
But let's dig down to at least one of the tap roots of this
stuff: Sexual repression or young persons is not the only
possible way to achieve "civilization", although it is
perhaps the only or at least a very effective
way to have the kind of so-called
"civilization" we have (capitalism, etc.).
Laurence Stone, in _The Family, Sex and Marriage in England
1500-1800 (Abridged Ed., Harper Torchbooks, 1979), writes:
One possible consequence of a system of very late
marriage and a large number of permanent bachelors is
the development of a violence-prone society of bachelors who
take out their sexual frustrations in military aggression....
If every value and every force surrounding an adolescent tells
him that his bodily affections must at all cost be transformed
and sublimated into physical effort, inetllectual prowess,
competitive zeal, and manly prowess, how can he not found
empires?... The nineteenth-century British Empire was
not founded in a fit of absence of mind, it was
acquired in a fit of absence of women. (pp. 242-243)
Think about how aim-inhibited exacerbation of homo-erotic
energies in the enforced public single-gender nudity of the
"locker room", for only one item, contributes to this....
(The classical Greeks were more civilized than this.)

Freud has one very interesting -- even
remarkable (to me, at least...) passage
in _Civilization and its Discontents_, which I have
excerpted at:

"Never again."
