Hi all:
The welfare ripoff is a classic example of our attitude toward society.

If our society is at all an association, then the elemental rules apply.

One of the basic elements of democracy is freedom of association.

When we are voluntarily associated, then the normal behaviour is to
contribute more to the association than we take from it. That gives it its
substantive value.

When we are associated by compulsion or through an absence of choice,
normal behaviour is to take more from the association than we contribute
toward it.

It seems that we are no longer of the opinion that we are "freely
associated" in our democracy.

That means that we no longer support the "brand" of democracy being
practiced. That, in turn, is an indictment of our political system.

Just a thought.

Ed G
