The WSJ conveniently left out the most juicy parts, which were reported
by European newspapers (even mainstream papers):

The police urinated on some detainees. A press photographer from
Rome, Alfonso de Munno, says he was thrown into a cell while his
foot was already broken. He saw how the police extinguished
cigarettes on the hands of a French protester, and officers
beat up detainees for hours and hours. The police threatened
to rape the girls with their truncheons. Detainees were forced to
scream Viva il Duce (long live Mussolini) and to sing the fascist
song Fascetta Nera. The Mobile Brigade continued shouting in chorus
(rhyming in Italian): "Uno due tre, viva Pinochet ... quattro.."
("One, two, three, long live Pinochet. Four, five, six [sei], death
to the Jews [ebrei]. Seven, eight, nine, no mercy with niggers.")
