Workology on CBC Radio One is back!

Starting January 7, 2002 from 10-11 am coast to coast.

Then join us every Monday until February 25. Same Workology time, same cutting-edge Workology radio. And...for all you 9to5-ers Workology will be repeated in the evening from 8-9 pm

Workology is about the secret world of work - the how, where and why we scratch out a living. On this budding radio show we hit the streets, and go behind closed doors to find out what the boss is really thinking, what the temp is plotting...and what it takes to make us happy at our jobs.

Workology is a smart, funny, and often subversive look at what we do for money. We want to hear your stories, thoughts and tips for survival. Drop us a line at [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Workology is hosted by Jane Farrow (employee #100001758). It is produced by Nick Purdon (from his new office 2G103). Both Jane and Nick are bossed around by executive producer Ira Basen, (who can say 'no' with the best of them).

The Next Available Operator: In many parts of the country, call centre jobs are just about the only game in town. But what's it like to be on the other end of that phone call? Workology goes inside the call centre. Also call centre consultant Berta Banks tests Nick and Jane to see if they have what it takes to be the "next available operator". Click here for Berta's website.

The Clockwatcher: Lisa Ayuso attends a conference for Administrative Professionals. In the old days they called them secretaries. Lisa reports on some of the helpful tips she learned there. Here's Lisa's brand new website.

Going big...and then going home. Logan McPherson tells us how diving shirtless of a 20-foot stack of sofas as part of an elaborate warehouse obstacle course go him fired from the Brick in Edmonton.

We're just putting together our story list and we thought we'd start by going on a little fishing expedition. We're looking for your help telling, or locating, stories on the topics listed below. We'd like to hear your story, or any yarns told by people you know.
We're also going to start up a Workology email newsletter. If you want to subscribe see below!

The Workology Confessional (tm)

Have you ever done anything really bad at work? And we mean really bad! We're not talking about spilling coffee on the rug. No, we're looking for people who stole a file from the boss' desk, who intentionally screwed up a co-worker's computer - the kind of stuff that you've kept bottled up inside of you, too ashamed to admit your guilt to anyone. Well, sinners of the workplace here's you chance to step forward and seek absolution. Send us your confessions. It will be good for your soul. And yes, we will protect your anonymity if you insist. Email us your story.

Commuting Hell

We're looking for Canada's worst daily commute. Who goes through hell and back just to get to work? Tell us your awful commuting stories, and don't spare any of the gory details. Email us your story.

Ask Jane

Are you having a problem with office politics, an unpleasant co-worker, workplace etiquette, or maybe you have a fashion query. Sometimes it's hard to know the difference between right and wrong on the job. Well, why not let Jane Farrow help show you the light. Jane will be dispensing advice to help you solve your workplace problems. Got a problem? Let us know. We've got answers. Email Jane your story.

Getting fired

Don't be ashamed, it happens to everyone (well, maybe not everyone, but it happens to lots of people). If it's happened to you, we'd like to hear about it. How was it done? How did you feel? What did you do? Tell us your firing stories. It will make you feel better. And yes, if you've been the firerer rather than the fireee, we want to hear from you too. Email us your story.

Radio at work

Do you listen to the radio in the office? What do you listen to? Have you had to fight with your co-workers over what to listen to, how loud, where, when, etc.? We want to hear from people who listen to radio (including CBC, of course) while they work. Email us your story.

Women bosses

Is there a woman in the corner office where you work? We want to explore the differences between men and women bosses. So if you have had both kinds, and you have some thoughts about the differences, let us know. And of course, if you are a woman who is now or has ever been a boss, and you have some observations to share, we want to hear from you too. Email us your story.

Freedom 55

It's the all-Canadian dream - take stock of your life, get out of the rat race, do want you really want to do, while you're still healthy enough to enjoy it. Does this sound like you? If it is, we want to hear your story. Has it worked out for you, or have you discovered the rat race wasn't so bad after all? Email us your story.

Have you slept with your boss?

Well, now that we've got your attention, let's get serious. It happens! How often? We don't know, but we would like to find out. If you've ever done it, we want to hear all about it…and we mean all about it, including the fallout. And of course, if you were the boss in this relationship, we want to hear from you too. Email us your story.

Powerpoint

It's everywhere, it's everywhere! And maybe that's the problem. When was the last time you attended a seminar or a conference without getting a few bullet points through the brain? Powerpoint has become the written language of the workplace. You can see your ideas reduced to four well-chosen words. If only life were really that simple. Send us your Powerpoint stories. Help us make your workplace bullet-proof. Email us your story.

"The twentieth century has been characterized by three developments of great
political importance: the growth of democracy; the growth of corporate power;
and the growth of propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against
democracy. "
