Howard Gardner has attempted to broaden people's understanding of
intelligence by describing eight 'kinds'. He calls this multiple
intelligences:

         Linguistic intelligence ("word smart"):

         Logical-mathematical intelligence ("number/reasoning smart")

         Spatial intelligence ("picture smart")

         Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence ("body smart")

         Musical intelligence ("music smart")

         Interpersonal intelligence ("people smart")

         Intrapersonal intelligence ("self smart")

         Naturalist intelligence ("nature smart")

The first two listed are the intelligences tested with the old IQ tests.
If you do a web search you can read for weeks about this stuff.

With the world wide back to the basics movement, which means pencil
and paper worksheets and standardized tests, only surface level,
trivial aspects of linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences
are stressed.
