Damon Knight just died.
His best known story was "To Serve Man".
The aliens arrive and they are benevolent and philanthropic. To help our backward planet, they set up a system for sending chosen earth people to their planet for education and training.
Soon hundreds of thousands of earth people travel of to the far reaches.
Our human characters manage to get a copy of what appears to be an alien project manual for earth - entitled "To Serve Man" - thus describing their selfless relationship with the primitives.
However, other than the English title the book is written in the incomprehensible alien language.
One of our heroes is watching a giant spaceship loading tens of thousands of earth people for their emancipating trip across the galaxy, when his friend arrives. He asks:
'Have you managed to translate the alien book?"
"Yes."
"Tell me about it."
"It's a cookbook."
