Gail,

I'm not sure how Mike came to the conclusion that I'm sending the Good
Society to everyone on the Canfutures list. I don't know everyone.
Certainly people I have jousted with and who have become friends are in my
Eudora database and they will certainly be on my list of addresses.

That's a reason for sending the note. People who already get too much mail,
or simply don't want it, can say 'no thanks'. I must say FW gave me the
idea that people might like a forum where people of different and perhaps
opposite beliefs can talk - and strongly disagree - without rancor. Perhaps
to begin to find common ideas that can lead toward the Good Society.

You'll note that I am sending out on my goodsoc E-Mail address. This means
I cannot send to the FW list, nor to any list I'm on. I use a
henrygeorgeschool E-Mail address for my correspondence. I assume that no
list I am subscribed to - including FW will accept goodsoc mail.

Am I wrong?

It hadn't occurred to me to ask FW if I may post a copy to the list.
Certainly, we get quite a lot of outside stuff posted, or referred to by
members. I like Arthur's Meme - which I get anyway directly.

The reason you got a copy of the note was because we had talked. This meant
your address was in the Eudora file. Because I knew that I would be getting
to people who might not be interested, I sent the preliminary note.

Of more concern is the fact that you received three copies. I haven't a
clue why this was so. I set my E-Mail program to remove duplicates.
Apparently it didn't work. I'll try it again. Or, perhaps you have more
than one address?

Maybe that was it.

Anyway, I'll be removing you and Mike and anyone else who is warned by my
note that something dreadful is coming!

The print edition began several decades ago, but publishing costs are high.
So, I got the idea of continuing it by E-Mail. Then, the idea of striking
out to people who in some fashion or other were in my Eudora files. That's
why I apologized in advance if it went to some who didn't want it. They are
easily removed. It will be an HTML publication so some people might not be
able to view it. They will presumably want to be removed.

I must say that I don't think the project has a lot of chance to succeed.
The dichotomies of all kinds now present in our society seem to be
unchangeable. People become set in their ways and apparently become
immovable. Well, we'll try.

There is no chance of my sending the Good Society to FW, but I will send
this note to the list.

Other friends may have the same concerns as you.

I did consider asking for permission to post the monthly GS on FutureWorks,
but an important part is the Agoura - a discussion list. I didn't think
that asking you to publish another discussion group would be proper.

Now I have to find out how you got three copies. It was probably my
bungling. Thanks for your pleasant note. I'll try to do better.

Harry
