Hi Harry, Well, you've certainly brought some heavyweight concerns into Ed's and my genteel discussion of the decline of government credibility.
GLOBAL WARMING We're certainly going through a warm phase at present with its increased number of extreme weather events. In addition to the counter-evidence of steady tropospheric temperatures, there are sufficient numbers of eminent climatologists, meteorologists and oceanographers who are not convinced that global warming is due to man-made CO2. AIDS I accept the conventional scientific view and not that of Duesberg. I think there is overwhelming evidence that AIDS is caused by the HIV virus and that, at best, AZT and other cocktails of drugs can only delay death. OVER-POPULATION I'm with Steve Kurtz on this. We have become vastly over-populated due to agrarian cultures -- that is, family size -- not being able to adjust quickly enough to post-agrarian society. There is simply nowhere near enough cheap fossil fuel reserves either to supply enough energy to bring the rest of the world up to the standards of the developed West. I make that a "crackpot" score of 0.5 out of 3.
