Rashomon (sp?) The Japanese film that dealt with the notion of "truth" and
what happened. What really happened. It depends. It depends on who you
ask and how carefully you listen.

Thanks for your response Harry. I like to play with the concept of
'particles of truth' with my students. I got the idea from Heinrich
Boll, a German novelist who won the Nobel prize for literature in
1972. He said that if we wanted to determine the truth of a situation
we would have to ask each person involved in the situation for their
version of the truth. Each of these versions could be considered
'particles of truth'.
So Harry what is your version of the truth of Iraq? Rather than the
debunking of 'both ways' why not gather as many particles of truth
from as many people as possible and see what these multiplicity of
perspectives might suggest?

My students say that this makes 'right answers' much more complex
than they ever imagined.

take care,
Brian
