We have to understand, first of all, that there is no connection between a
berserk rampage and government efficiencies. No connection. No connection.
No connection.

But it is precisely because there is "no connection" that there _is_ a
connection.

"Only connect! That was the whole of her sermon. Only connect the prose and
the passion, and both will be exalted, and human love will be seen at its
highest. Live in fragments no longer. Only connect, and the beast and the
monk, robbed of the isolation that is life to either, will die."

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - The RCMP say a job dismissal appears to have sparked the
fatal shooting at a B.C. government building in Kamloops on Tuesday.

Government spokesperson Andy Orr confirms a senior official was fired from
his job at the Water, Land and Air Protection Ministry on Tuesday.

The 56-year-old man returned later in the day with a handgun. A dozen people
ran from the building, but a few were trapped inside.

When police finally entered the building four hours later, they found what
they had feared. "Three deceased people believed to be males were located.
This is now a homicide investigation," says RCMP Constable Mike Pears.

Pears would not identify the shooter.

One of the victims was Jim McCracken. He is the regional director of the
Southern Interior Region of the Ministry.

The shootings have prompted the Campbell government to delay the layoffs of
more than 500 government workers this week.

Earlier this year, the government announced plans to eliminate at least
11,700 jobs over the next three years, including 3,300 this year.
