I am writing a précis of "Mendel's Demon: Gene Justice and the Complexity
of Life" by Mark Ridley. It is a popular science book but, nevertheless, it
is pretty up-to-date as regards the latest ideas about genes and evolution.
Mark Ridley is at the Department of Zoology at Oxford University and was
formerly assistant professor of anthropology at Emory University, Atlanta.
He's the author of several specialist works but also writes for the NYT,
TLS and so forth. "Mendel's Demon" was extremely well-reviewed but I found
it somewhat turgid in places. That's why I decided to write a précis. If
any FWer would like to read my précis chapter by chapter over the next few
weeks please let me know and I will send a copy.
