Karen,

In my pre-dogwalk haste this morning I misread Philip Jenkins' case*. I now
realise that he's not saying there's going to be a Second Reformation
(within Christianity) leading to a revival of individualism and energy, but
a second Counter-Reformation a strong Pentecostal-type reaction to the
liberalisation/intellectualising of theology (and falling church
attendances) within the 'straight' Christianity of the northern hemisphere.
And this, in turn might lead to much sectarian trouble both within
Christianity as a whole but also, more trouble between it and Islam than is
taking place already (Sudan, Nigeria, Indonesia, Philippines).

Well, all I can say is that I found his analysis to be fascinating and
quite persuasive quite the most interesting material I have read on my
dogwalk for many a week.
