I was thinking about religion, yesterday, on the occasion of
an invitation to attend a religious service (which religion's
service is not of any consequence...).

And I was thinking how, for each religion, *somebody* started
it.

Now, if anything is *fundamental*, certainly to *found* the thing
is (whatever the thing so founded happens to be).

And I asked myself why spend one's time following somebody else's
religion when one can be founding one's own? (Yes, I know,
Nietzsche asked this question over a century ago, and Christ
advised us to leave the dead to bury the dead, etc. --But just
because something is not new under the sun does not mean it does
not bear repeating.)

"Fundamentalists" are *so* derivative (as so are most
other persuasions -- but let us not forget about those
who make something new in the guise of pretending to
be following somebody else, so nobody will try to
stop them -- including themselves!).

Here's a wonderful picture from Agence-France Presse in
today's NYT

(Who knows, maybe Osama's there somewhere? It would be hard to tell....)

exactly the right word...):
