C'mon Arthur,

No Democrat could have ever opened up China or done, or do, the outrageous
foreign policy things that Republicans do under the guise of being
conservative. And no Republicans can pass to the public the neo-liberal
economic policies that Clinton did. Both parties may be closer to the
center than we admit but the public will only allow one to do one thing
while the other does the opposite.

They are less creatures of thought and their own stories than they are of
the public who continually re-invents them in new ways. They are a device
of public consciousness just as capitalism is a device of local control.
That is why the courts are in such danger at the moment. Courts should
restore balance through legal scholarship and not be admittedly one or the
other. When they become that they are no longer courts but Congress with
a lifetime contract. That is also why we cannot allow religions to
escape public debate. Hiding behind sacred texts is the enemy of
Democracy and must not be allowed to escape.

The problem IMHO is that people are too busy trying to capture the power of
the Underdog or Victim since they see how much it has done for the Indians
prior to 1939, the Jews since WW II and the Blacks since 1956. Now we
have poor victim white males, poor Italians, poor etc. etc. Not because
they were, are, are not or were not but because the power of sympathy is a
trickster place and everyone wants to own that energy. Except they forget
that Coyote, Rabbit, Raccoon etc. always dies in the end of the stories or
is tricked themselves. When one assume that energy as in the story of
Coyote and Farting Boy, you get one thing but it hurts you in another place.

Got to go,

REH
