Theory: Two Directions of Time...
Posted by: brodix on Jan 02, 2003 - 07:08 PM
Reality is energy recording information. The amount of energy remains the same, so old information is erased as new information is recorded. The thread of time is therefore being woven out of strands pulled from what was previously woven. Time is not a line, but cycles within cycles.
Now is not a point, but what exists. What exists is the energy. The reason we see it as a point is because this energy is traveling at the speed of light and we must quanitize it into packets of logic, called thoughts. As our logical basis increases, it takes less energy to produce each thought. This is one reason time speeds up as we grow older. Now is this quanitization of thought.
Time is a measure of motion, specifically that of the entity relative to context. As the context is not absolute, it constitutes an opposite direction of time.
The context of any entity is all other entities affected by and affecting the particular object. Whether at
traction or repulsion, any two such objects are moving in opposite directions. Therefore the direction of the context, as a whole, is opposite the entity.
As individuals, we think of time as proceeding from beginning to end, but our context is going in the opposite direction. For the individual, birth is in the past and death is in the future, but for the process of life, the future is in the next generation and what is past dies.
Consider a factory. The product moves from intiatation to completion, while the future of the factory isn't in the completed product, but what is to be built.
Past and future are a product of subjective perspective. Objectively there is only what exists. (Potentially this would apply to the spiritual essence as well. Life is an organism of the present.)
Past is the closed set of what is ordered. Subject to entropy it still loses energy. The present is the open set, that which is ordered, but still absorbing energy. The f
uture is the chaos of random energy.
As an instrument of navigation our mental processes focus on what is ordered, then what is out of place in that order. Unfortunately this creates a reality facing the direction of entropy and decline. Life isn't the order of the sidewalk, it's the grass pushing up through it.
Einstein thought the universe would collapse to a point, but he was focused on the gravitational effect of matter. This process is always radiating energy back out, so if gravity is collapsing space could it be that radiation is effectively expanding space? The closed set is collapsing, but the energy is expanding.
This relationship between objects and processes is the basis of our thinking. Memes being those logical entities that continue to absorb energy and grow.
Remember that communism was an economic entity, while capitalism is an economic ecosystem. (Of course the transfer of wealth and power upward institutionalizes the process, so
that it becomes an entity, but that's a whole nother argument......
Then of course there is that institutionalization of the spiritual process into the entity of monotheism, but it is certainly in decline, though feeding on the most insecure.
I always thought of time as a measuring system, whereby we incrementalize the universal process of becoming. It may derive from the slightly neurotic need to have a sense of predictability. Our sense of quantity may lead us to implement a consciousness that is predictive and increments help this.

I think that when Einstein spoke of the space-time continuum he was trying to point out there simultaneous identity, their synonomousness. It all simply is and flows.
Alan Watts spoke of it roughly this way: imagine you are looking at the ground between two trees and a snake peeks its head out from one side. It begins to travel from one side to the other. Since it is the nature of our psyches to incrementalize, and the dividing line between quanta is a shutting out of existence, since we sleep and awake and we divide ad infinitum, since all of these things are true about the cause-and-effect psyche, we have a moment of non-awareness in which we
'blink' if you will. Upon opening the eyes, upon awakening again, upon viewing the next of increments we see the tail of the snake disappearing behind the other tree. Cause-and-effect mind says the head caused the tail. This is an analogy and we all know the snake is one and this is Alan Watts' point; that this is true of time also. The universal soul will never end because it has no beginning and this sets a big bang upon the big ban theory but it is a reality taken in stride by the easter mindset.
I hope I haven't just confused the reader. Unfortunately, a tool like the intellect, which divides one's surroundings into parts and describes and quantifies their relationships, is the last tool to be useful in grasping the wholographic nature of things. Reply to this
