Can't resist sharing my all-time favourite N-YrKr cartoon (a
classic from the 50s as I recall from a day home sick from
school).
We are in the hallway of an apartment building. The door to
#409 has been answered and is being held half-way open by
the woman of the house in housecoat and curlers. She has a
very startled look on her face because facing her -- we see
him from behind -- is the hooded figure of The Grim Reaper,
Lord Death. Caption: "Take it easy, Lady. I've come for your
toaster."
Which segues to another New Yorker cartoon,
this one by Jack Ziegler.

A man is holding a pistol to his temple, at the
kitchen table, about to pull the trigger.

The toaster says something to him,
like: "You're special, Jack: You have a talking toaster."
