Hi, Brian,
I don't think it's the oil, and explained why in a couple of posts some time
ago. Saddam Hussein makes a dandy oil trading partner. No need to topple
him and face a chaotic situation. We are all searching for a rational
reason -- and not finding a truly credible one -- which says something about
the situation, doesn't it? <smile>
"That man once tried to kill my dad."
What more reason do we need to seek for? Of course the
world's second largest ooil reserves would be a
nice accompniment for the prodigal son to
give to his Dad along with Saddam Hussein's head....
But Bush is a simple man. He has no ego (I read that
in the NYT yesterday). If he gets all those oil
reserves for the US it's because he loves his country.
But, personally, he is a humble Christian who
has simple needs like saying grace before
dinner and winning his Dad's blessing
every day.

Weapons of mass destruction?
He's simply a nasty evil guy?
Democracy for the poor Iraqis?
Take out a threat to Israel?
Get oil?
Establish long-term hegemony over the Gulf -- and get all the oil for ever?
Show Daddy that I'm a (better) man?
Perle thinks it is a good idea?
People like me when I am at war?
Where else can we try out our weapons?
Prevent another terrorist base from emerging?
What other motives can we add to the list?

Hi Lawry,
Try greed. Robert Fisk and Chomsky both say it is the oil. The Carlyle
Group usually gets what it wants.
Take care,
Brian
