I'm still waiting for printing technology to get to the point
where I can cheaply generate posters 3x4ft with resolution so
fine that the fractal detail is finer than the eye can perceive
even close up, as this is the best way to get the full impact
of the images.
I'm waiting for a computer screen that is as congenial to
sustained attention as your average quality paperback.

Then I'd hope for a computer screen that would be
really appealing -- like letterpress printing on rag paper.

But, giving credit where credit is due, I have previously
noted that even a bottom of the line 1985 Mac had decent
screen icons, and, with Windows 95, Microsoft's screen
icons no longer made me nauseous. And printing on the
Mac Imagewriter really did have some of the "feel" of
letterpress printing.

But to my pet grievance: Print a letter (whatever) on
a laser printer (or Xerox it). Now fold the paper.
The toner will tend to come off along the crease.
*That*, to me, is intolerable even if it must
be accepted.

For those who are really interested in the misadventures of
Xerox machines:
