No, I was tuned in to all of that fundamentalist garbage coming out of the pulpits at the time as I'm sure he was. He was simply not able to answer it all. It is now everywhere. I wrote that piece about Sam Lipman on Memorial day, a man who believed the problem with the world was the birth control pill, and I caught some guff from people who knew him but others came around and said thank you so much for saying that. We hear such stuff everywhere and we all thought he was an idiot.
Ain't gossip wonderful? That's the way they got Gore. He was helpless and he knew it. He is a stiff and dignified but very intelligent Southerner who is also a member of the Southern Baptist Church. It doesn't take a genius to know that you are being screwed but he could have been more stubborn and made a bigger mess. Considering the mess we are in I wish he had.
