In today's NYT (p.A5) there's a little
piece about Maurice Papon, the highest
ranking French civilian ever convicted
of Nazi war crimes.

As part of his punishment, his pension was
revoked.

The French Council of State ordered the
pension reinstated because:

    there could be no penalties
    that strip defendents of their
    civil rights

I'd sure like to hear Dubya would have to
say about the idea
that a pension is a *civil right*.
