Iraq Oil Flow to Turkey Is Halted by Leak

Iraqi Oil Flow to Turkey Stumbles As Pipeline Springs Leak;

U.S. Arrests 11 Suspects in Attacks

BAGHDAD, Iraq Oct. 18 — Efforts to resume vital oil exports from northern Iraq, halted for weeks by sabotage, stumbled once more Saturday when the main pipeline to Turkey sprung a leak, Turkish officials said.

Elsewhere, U.S. troops and Iraqi police arrested 11 people, three of them women, who were suspected of links to attacks against U.S. soldiers, witnesses said. The arrests occurred one day after U.S. forces suffered their bloodiest daily combat loss in a month.

The dead included a lieutenant colonel, the highest ranking officer killed since the war began March 20.

Have seen speculation that the lack of photo images of flag-draped coffins is putting too positive a spin on the public’s awareness of the body count.

The Pentagon has banned such photos as they are transported to/from Dover AFB in Delaware.  This is said to be for the sake of the family’s privacy.

One GOP Congressman made the unfortunate mistake of saying during the 87B funding request debate last week, that the body count wasn’t that bad, actually.
