It must be possible, but tricky. udev know when a dvd is inserted, so it must be possible to use it. The problem is at you cannot use udev directly but must use other programs such as layman if I understand well how udev is working. I use layman on my system to automount my CD-DVD. It is an option that can be set in its configuration to autolaunch a DVD movie with whatever program. It can be modified to set an environment variable that can be used by Crystal. But it will work only for users using layman and they would have to configure it by hand. Other users would have to set this environment variable in their .bashrc or .profile in order to get this entry. (Or maybe at a test for a non running layman instance can do that.)
