As Tom said, and I said, it COULD be a crash. It could also be Fvwm exiting. VNC creates a log as it runs, take a look in there for a hint. Also look for a core file, You should not need a $HOME/.fvwm/.fvwm2rc file but some non-default set up is usually a good idea.
