Hi all,

I know I have made so many threats and/or promises to get 2.5.X to a stable
condition. The big issue was one that Dan Espen raised in that the
fvwm-menu-desktop script didn't work with GNOME or KDE.

I'm going to commit to CVS tomorrow a potential replacement, which will,
*for now* sit along side the current fvwm-menu-desktop script, for people to
use. Note that unlike the current fvwm-menu-desktop, my proposal doesn't
have most of the options, as they don't make sense. Especially in terms of
styling the menu, I'd rather that were done in the user's .fvwm2rc file for
instance.

This will obviously impact fvwm-themes if my replacement is accepted -- and
when I say "mine", I really mean a verbatim copy of the ArchLinux script
which was mentioned before -- yes, the code *sucks*, but I have neither the
time or the inclination to rewrite it, and I have to take the hit in
augmenting that solution, over rewriting it; no matter how much I might
dislike the code, this could drag out long enough.

So once I have done that, and let's assume that fvwm-menu-desktop is
replaced by this xdg-menu equivalent, I will have to:

* Somehow migrate people's .fvwm2rc settings in fvwm-convert-2.6
* Fix fvwm-themes to use this new script.

But it is a big change -- and whilst fvwm-themes might seem dead to some, I
still carry some weight to push it forward in line with current FVWM
development, although this shouldn't hold up a potential 2.6.0 release
candidate soon enough.

I really want to see a release candidate of FVWM based on my changes to
fvwm-menu-desktop soon. I just hope there's enough people around who'd br
willing to test the replacement script when I've committed it.

So I apologise for being so silent -- but I am still around. I wanted to
make people aware of that. :)
