If I remember correctly the existing code is a result of trying to get something that works both with QT applications and some GTK applications (e.g. GNU cash) as well as some windows that would get into an infinite manual placement loop. (I think other placemnt strategies worked for the window, only during manual placement they were poping up and down forever. /Viktor
