It is when you have to hit more a couple times because they don't fit
on the window list. I've wished for a search a times.
I see cwm has a window search feature, it's one of two features listed
in the two line description on freshmeat.net. It might make a good
reference, here's the man page section. What it doesn't mention is
that it's an incremental and glob search, I'm not sure if that means shell like
file
patterns or what as I've not used the window manager.

SEARCH
cwm features the ability to search for windows by their current title,
old titles and by their label. The priority for the search results are:
Label, current title, old titles in reverse order and finally window
class name. cwm keeps a history of the 5 previous titles of a window.
When searching, the leftmost character of the result list may show a
flag:
! The window is the currently focused window.
& The window is hidden.
The following keybindings may be used to navigate the result list:
[Down] or C-s
Select the next window in the list.
[Up] or C-r
Select the previous window in the list.
C-u Clear the input.
[Enter] Focus the selected window.
[Esc] Quit.
C-a Whenever there are no matching windows, list every
window.
