Thnaks for the input. The suggestion of J. Kotta (using Style 
Figure* Lenience ) did not work. What did the job was the
suggestion in 

http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg00371.html

redefining the function XSetInputFocus.

The problem has not been changed until the latest version (matlab 9).
