OK, check that you still have Mod3 on the windows key. Do: xmodmap -pm I get: home> xmodmap -pm shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e) lock control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d), Control_L (0x42) mod1 Meta_L (0x40) mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d) mod3 mod4 Alt_L (0x73) mod5 In my case, the windows key is Alt_L and its mod4. The bindings above work for me, providing I change the 3 to a 4.
