Looks like mplayer doesn't compile without libavcodec. I'd look into the problem if I get it to compile.
Thanks for pointing this out, you can fix the bug using the following patch (or latest CVS). However, mplayer is not very useful without libavcodec. But maybe "dummy" video capture driver will be enough to test the window behavior.
