I actually disabled all other icon definition, but the result is the same.
One turn-around, using the hint given by Mikhael, was
to make a bigger version of editor.xpm (convert -scale 150 editor.xpm
editor-big.xpm)
and then:
Style Gvim Icon editor-big.xpm
(and idem for elvis)
