Hi!

At work, my homedirectory is in AFS, a distributed file system that
has many useful features, but is limited in the kind of files that
it allows. Specifically it's not possible to create a socket in
AFS space.

Unfortunately that means that I can't use FvwmConsole.

FvwmConsole tries to setup a socket in $HOME/.fvwm/ by default and
it appears there is no way around this, other than changing the
sourcecode.

Other software sets up sockets or named pipes in $TMP or elsewhere
in /var and ensures they are placed in a subdirectory that is only
accessible to the user, as in /tmp/orbit-$USER, /var/run/uscreens
etc.

I wonder if FvwmConsole could be adapted in a similar way and how
to do this correctly and portably.

Kind regards
        Friedel
