I don't agree.  I don't associate "pressing cursor left" with "moving
someting left", rather with "descending into menu".  (In fact I use hjkl
more often, but it's basically the same.) And most time I don't even
care about menu positions, it just pops up somewhere.  I would be very
confused if I had to press different keys depending on its position.

Well, I could live with this, but would probably never use this feature.
