If I am following you this could be used to do something like send polled/parsed stdout from a command line program to a Fvwm widget that could wrap/swallow the output for "pretty" display in a button bar or similar. I'm thinking scantool stdout for "real-time" output of OBD-II status into my Fvwm carputer interface.
